Causes and prevention of postpartum hair loss

the reasons of postpartum hair loss

In fact, "postpartum hair loss" is a normal physiological phenomenon, which is mainly related to the changes of body hormone levels after gestation, as well as to postpartum mental factors and lifestyle.

1、Insufficient hormone levels after childbirth

After pregnancy, progesterone, estrogen, and a small amount of prolactin and oxytocin in the female body work together to regulate and improve various physiological changes in women during pregnancy, and promote the development of the uterus and mammary glands.

But after pregnancy, estrogen in the body will gradually decline. At this time, the rapid changes in hormone levels will lead to a large number of hair loss in a short period of time.

2、Emotional factors

When giving birth to a baby, mental fear, emotional fluctuations, as well as poor rest and overwork after childbirth, will increase the excitement of the brain, sebaceous glands in a state of exuberant secretion, easy to block hair follicles, affect the supply of nutrients for hair, when the hair is undernourished, it is also prone to hair loss

3、Undernourishment

During childbirth, a large amount of bleeding, energy and physical exhaustion, most mothers experience postpartum physical weakness. And the mother's daily consumption of frequent breast-feeding, it is easy to undernourish, that nutrition supply is not sufficient, will also lead to poor hair quality and a large number of hair loss.

4、Damage to scalp

Many novice mothers listen to the older generation's teachings and dare not wash or comb their hair during the confinement period, which makes the sebum secretion and dust mixed and accumulated in the scalp, affecting the blood supply of the head, and easy to cause folliculitis or scalp infection. Over a long period of time, it will cause scalp damage and hair loss.

How to prevent postpartum hair loss

1、In a good mood.

Keep optimistic. New mothers don't need to be too nervous. Postpartum hair loss is only a temporary process. Anxiety and even insomnia can aggravate hair loss. Only by facing it calmly with optimism, can it regain its hair volume as soon as possible. In addition, proper physical exercise should also be carried out, but need to avoid hair exposure in the sun.

 2、More protein supplements

Protein is the most important source of hair nutrition. Therefore, in addition to pay attention to balanced intake, mothers also should add some protein-rich foods  in the diet, such as milk, eggs, fish, lean meat.

3、Often massage scalp

Frequently comb your hair with a wooden comb, or massage and stimulate your scalp rhythmically with your fingers. It can promote the blood circulation of the scalp, facilitate the metabolism of hair, and accelerate the growth of new hair.

4、Washing and nursing should be reasonable

Choose a mild shampoo and wash your hair regularly. When shampooing, attention should be paid to gently combing along the direction of hair growth in the shower, not all close to the front or from the pillow back to the forehead.

Postpartum hair loss is normal. Usually 4 months after delivery, hair loss will reach the peak, generally in about 1 year after delivery, the number of hair can be restored to normal level.

When the new mother arrives at this stage, don't be too anxious and burdened with thoughts. Do a good job of proper nursing in life, pay attention to rest, relax and have a balanced diet.
